In Week 7 of the 14-week video series, I spoke with Long Island fishing author, YouTuber and mentor, John Skinner about spring run stripers, and John’s favorite lure… the bucktail. Bucktails are a versatile striper lure that can be fished in almost any conditions or environment. John talks about the many applications of bucktail jigs, trailers and jig strips, and the differences in fishing for stripers on Long Island’s north and south shores. He breaks down the characteristics of a bucktail which he finds most conducive to bass fishing around his home waters of the Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay, while covering some of the striper action he’s seen since his return from Florida last week. Check out the video, and be sure to like and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more weekly striper season updates.
