Three nationally vital estuaries are in long-term collapse due to the damming, diking and draining of the River of Grass.

Florida has long been a fisherman’s playground for anglers in the Northeast, a place to escape the winter and enjoy an incredible variety of saltwater angling. In fact, of the three million fishing licenses bought each year in the state of Florida, one million are purchased from out-of-state anglers, many of them from Northeastern states.

Three nationally vital estuaries are in long-term collapse due to the damming, diking and draining of the River of Grass. The Herbert Hoover Dike that contains Lake Okeechobee prevents fresh water from following its historic path southward through the Everglades.

The environmental devastation that is affecting Florida’s fishing right now is not just a Florida problem–how our community of anglers organizes for change and how the state of Florida reacts will help set the tone when facing similar environmental threats in our backyard.

Join the cause by signing the Now or Neverglades Declaration and support the 200-plus Everglades scientists who believe that increased storage, treatment and conveyance of water south of Lake Okeechobee is essential to stop the damaging discharges to the coastal estuaries; to restore the flow of clean, fresh water to Everglades National Park, Florida Bay and the Florida Keys; to improve the health of Lake Okeechobee; and to protect the drinking water for 8 million Floridians living in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Govrnor Scott belongs in jail for Medicare fraud. Now this A__hole is selling us out to the 1% destroying our lakes, rivers, Everglades and oceans. This man needs to be stopped now. In 2021 the devastation that he has allowed may be irreversible and we haven’t even gotten onto fracking.
