It was a masterful piece of marketing that, were it not decades before the internet age, would have certainly gone viral. In a 1961 Life magazine ad, Boston Whaler founder Richard Fisher sat in a floating 13-foot Whaler with a crosscut saw halfway through the hull. After the cut was completed, he used the stern section to tow the bow section back to shore.
And the Unsinkable Legend of Boston Whaler was born.
The idea of a boat that stayed afloat, even after being sawed in half, resonated with boaters in the Northeast, who understand that pushing the limits of a short boating season requires toughness and an unsinkable spirit.

That spirit has carried through all of Whaler’s designs and is apparent in today’s lineup of boats ranging from 11 to 42 feet. Yes, you can still saw a Boston Whaler in half and expect it to float. But unsinkability is about more than just safety—it’s about a spirit of innovation, which exists today in the form of smart design, high-quality construction and forward-thinking technology.

That is why Whalers remain a favorite of fishermen and boaters from New Jersey to Maine. The Boston Whaler brand breeds confidence, giving owners peace of mind whether chasing fish in the shallows or tackling offshore waters. However, the modern Whaler is also about attention to detail, luxurious comfort, and a quality fit and finish that makes multitasking between performance fishing, entertaining, and family fun a breeze.

O’
Boston Whaler
king o the sea
With hull
A gleaming pearl.
Aboard the swells
A fisherman be
Keen eye out
For the swirls
Alas the storm
Which pushes you home
And lonely
In the world
Turn on back
And let it be peace
And smile
Back at the girl.
