Rhode Island Striper Poachers Busted

RI DEM seized stripers

Over the past week DEM’s Division of Law Enforcement (DLE) teamed up with NOAA’s Office of Law Enforcement and the US Coast Guard and made several striped bass cases in Narragansett Bay and in federal waters off Southwest Ledge:

June 14, DLE charged a poacher in Mt. Hope Bay with several striped bass violations and boating violations. The poacher is known to have commercial licenses in neighboring states.

June 16, DLE charged a poacher in Mt. Hope Bay with several striped bass violations and boating violations. The poacher is known to have commercial licenses in neighboring states.

June 16, DLE & NOAA OLE, charged three separate vessels with various state and federal striped bass violations in state and federal waters around Block Island.

June 17, on a joint patrol with our partner agency USCG, charged a NY charter boat with striped bass violations in federal waters.

Those charged with state violations were assigned a district court summons. Federal violators were referred to NOAA-OLE for investigation. Some of the seized fish were able to be released alive, while the remaining fish were donated to the Amos House.

Obviously the “slap on the wrist” punishment means nothing to poachers. At least their commercial licenses should be revoked and names printed for all to see.

OTW needs to substitute “Dirtbags” for “poachers”. Sportsmen have had it with scum!

Who cares make it sound like you seized 2 tons of cocaine , how about instead of spending thousands a night take the forces and pound the shore line and rivers and go after the people that take 100s of schoolies a night,

Poachers showing intentional disregard for violations with any commercial licenses in any State should have them all revoked for a set period of time (2-5y). Automatically.
