JUST STOCKED! - 4,800 two-year old Rainbow Trout, averaging 14-18 inches!

Monday and Tuesday, November 25 and 26, approximately 4,800 two-year old Rainbow Trout, averaging 14-18 inches, were stocked in 20 designated ponds and lakes across New Jersey. The Winter Trout Stocking Program is the final one each year, bringing the total of trout stocked from the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Warren County to more than 600,000.

The Winter Trout Stocking Program extends trout fishing action through the winter months and early spring until spring stocking begins (opening day is April 11 in 2020). Spring anglers are in for a real battle when they hook into trout stocked as part of the fall and winter programs!

Why wouldn’t it be better to stock more trout in the fall then in the spring being trout are cold water fish a lot of the stream that are stocked in the spring have very little water in the summer and it gets hot . The delaware/ Raritan canal is one good example. Fall stocked trout there would survive till spring, providing trout fish for most of the year . Fall / winter / spring . Not just spring fishing till the water gets warm and a most go belly up . Just my option I’ve only fished New Jersey for 55+ years now ?‍♂️
