It’s been a week of big fish with buzz worthy lake trout making news in New Hampshire while premium pike have been the rage in Maine. To push the “big” theme a little further big bays on Winnipesaukee have ice fishing activity as does Moosehead in Maine.
New Hampshire Fishing Report
Lisa from The Tackle Shack in Meredith said that Moultonborough Bay is the latest to lock up on Lake Winnipesaukee and there’s even been news of “popups” on Spindle Point. There have also been hardwater activity on Alton Bay and Meredith Bay. Word has it that the white perch and rainbow trout bite has been good. The bows have been running tight to the shoreline with sandy beaches fishing well. Waukewan and Winnisquam all have activity as well.
Tammy from The Tackle Shack in Newbury said that there have been some very big lake trout taken from Lake Sunapee. Live smelt and jigs/sucker strips have been hot there. Kezar Lake has been among the best for crappie and bass.
Joe from Granite State Rod and Reel Repair in Nashua listed Mill Pond, Beaver Pond, Rocky Pond and Turkey Pond as a few of the more popular ice fishing destinations with the latter renowned for crappie.
Southern Maine Fishing Report
Andrew from Sebago Bait and Tackle told me that there have been snowmobiles out and about on Little Sebago as well as some of the Otter Ponds although he would not recommend it. Little Sebago can be good for both smallmouth and largemouth bass as well as brown trout while the Otters are known for brookies and bass. Sandy Pond has also been pretty good for brown trout and “brown” bass. A real gem that Andrew recommends is the expansive and varied Chain of Ponds area which is custom made for the explorer and features everything from cusk, to salmon to lake trout! Recent recons from Andrew and friends has revealed willing salmon and smallmouth bass.
Brady from Dag’s Bait & Sportgoods in Auburn told me that he has some premium shiners in store for patrons coming into the shop. You might consider using them at the Belgrade Lakes with the nod especially going to Great Pond where there is a rumor of a 26 pound pike taken there! Thompson Lake finally has good ice and solid lake trout fishing just be leery of the middle which is notorious for locking up late,

New Hampshire And Southern Maine Fishing Forecast
Revel in good ice and increasing opportunities to fish them because folks just south of you are extremely envious! Lake Sunapee is sporting enough ice tor anglers to sniff out some impressive lake trout. Big bays throughout Winnipesaukee are a best bet for rainbows and white perch. Not to be outdone, for a premium pike consider the Belgrade Lakes area in Maine. Farther north the Chain of Lakes and Moosehead area offer a cornucopia of salmonoids and enough water to ditch any crowds.
