The adult trout stocking has begun in Northampton County. Many streams will be loaded with trout in anticipation of Mentored Youth Day and Opening Day.
As a reminder, all the streams designated as Stocked Trout Waters are currently closed, but still there are plenty of angling opportunities. In Bushkill Creek, there is a catch and release section going from the dam at Binney Smith downstream to the 13th Street Bridge crossing. This section is under special regulations but is open to angling all year round.
Minsi Lake has been added as a Stocked Trout Waters Open to Year-Round Fishing, meaning you may practice catch and release, but no trout may be taken or possessed until Mentored Youth Day or Opening Day.
There are also two other special regulation sections open to angling, one on Saucon Creek, the other on the Monocacy Creek. Please refer to the summary guide for specific stream limits and regulations.
As we kick off our 2021 Trout stockings in Lehigh County please be advised that all Stocked Trout Waters are closed from 2/15/21 until Opening Day on 4/3/21.
Trout anglers are taking full advantage of the Fly-Fishing Only Sections on Little Lehigh Creek. Fly Fishing anglers are using small midges and emergers to attract trout in these Fly Fishing Only Sections.
For 2021, Leaser Lake has changed from Stock Trout Waters to Stock Trout Waters Open all Year-Round Fishing, meaning trout cannot be harvested from 2/15/21 until opening Day of April 3rd.
Anglers report they are having productive catch rates for Crappie and Perch using jigs small live shiners in Leaser Lake.
The PA Fish and Boat Commission does not monitor ice thickness. Prior to walking out on the ice take all safety precautions by testing the ice and wearing all safety equipment.
Please remember Leaser Lake is a Special Regulation Waterway: trout cannot be harvested from 2/15/21 to 4/3/21.
All species, except for Trout, still fall under catch and release/no harvest regulations. The use of gaffs, spears, and gigs to retrieve fish through the ice is prohibited.
