I will tell you something of what we had back in the 60s&70s. spring bass were caught(small fish in March in backwaters or surf mostly bait till mid-April. magic happened Mothers day (approx.) w/school bass in our north jersey rivers. then as mackeral moved along the coast big bass followed till mackeral headed east for new england waters.big bass now were in close for fisherman to catch on live herring, menhaden(bunker) or bottom baits(worms, calms etc.) this was the greatest of times around May 15-18th in Monmouth Co.. boat or beach was fantasic. now no herring or mackeral exist locally. thank god for menhaden!! last season had no spearing or few other small baitfish. sandeels were very good in late fall. we can only hope for a return from nature . I am looking forward to something better than 2020.
