Striped Bass Poacher Caught on Providence River

Report any and all fishing violations.

From the Rhode Island DEM Facebook Page:

Last night Environmental Police Officers from DEM’s Division of Law Enforcement responded to a complaint of a poacher taking undersized striped bass from an area near the Providence River bike path. Undercover Officers identified the poacher and charged him with possession of undersized and possession over the limit of striped bass. The legal limit for striped bass is currently 1 fish/person/day with a size no less than 28 inches. The seized fish were donated to the Amos House in Providence.

Help us protect what is yours for the next generation. Find possession and size limits for recreational fishing at http://www.dem.ri.gov/marine and report any violations to our dispatch center (401) 222-3070.

This is a pathetic excuse for their enforcement. Catching petty poachers in the Providence, whilst there’s bigger fish to fry at Block Island! Good job for your underachievement RI DEM! And why are you donating contaminated fish to the Amos house!?! LOL

Vince, People go on this site to talk about fishing not politics . Is it that hard to leave politics, immigration reform and racists stereotypes out of the site? Your previous comments where about building the wall and associating a recent poacher with being an illegal alien when that was proven untrue. Trolling is for fishing not politics.

Any poacher being busted is a plus. Ultimately, the enviro police did a good thing, right? Why bash the effort?

    This is so freaking pathetic
    These scumbags
    Slippery like eels
    Scum off the eels back

When will adults start acting like adults in this country
    Get a job
Get your head out of the sand

Impound the vehicle, post their faces. If you awarded 50% of the fine to the Whistleblower, you’ll get more calls. Win, Win!

Seize all of their gear, vehicle, and boat. Strip them of their license, do not allow them a renewal for a minimum of 2 years. Increased fine $5k+.

We cannot have a slap on the wrist that one or two trips like this will pay for any incurred losses.

    2. Patrick Aponte

I dont need any monetary incentive to throw a poacher under the bus.

    Vince-
    You need to know man
    America has always been great
That’s why our problems are fish

I go fishing all the time and throw back bigger fish than that.. Anyways maybe this guy will learn his lesson and think twice about keeping illegal fish… And to the guy who mentioned Block Island you are absolutely right.Alot of guys catching striped bass there and selling them in Mass. They should have DEM on patrol inthose waters cause if poachers see them they definitely ain’t taking any illegal fish…….

Fishing is my drug of choice and I think we need more enforcement out there to control the public in regards to fishing because people really don’t have respect for the law and humanity

As my father and I released 2 bass over 30lbs yesterday and have practiced catch and released for years, I know we are doing our part to help Strpers stocks recover . It frustrates the hell out of me that greedy jackasses continue to poach and destroy our fishery . The judicial system needs to start punishing these guys with more than a slap on the wrist. They need to implement strict punishments to deter these guys.
