Comment TODAY on Striped Bass Conservation

If the clock has not yet struck 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, I urge you to immediately fire off an email to Mike Waine, Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan Coordinator, at mwaine@asmfc.org (Subject line: Draft Addendum IV).

It’s the last chance to submit your comments in support of striped bass conservation. Simply share why you care about striped bass conservation and let the Striped Bass Management Board know that you support the most conservative option on the table: an immediate 25% reduction in striped bass harvest in 2015. This is the most important point that you can make if you want to see more conservative striper regulations next year to reverse the decline in the striped bass population. You can also choose one of 9 management options that achieve the reduction.

Option B1: 1 over 28″
Option B2: 1 over 30″
Option B3. 1 over 32″
Option B4: 1 slot between 28″-40″
Option B5: 2 fish over 33″
Option B6: 2 fish 28-34″ slot
Option B7: 2 fish; 1 28-34″ and 1 over 36″
Option B8: 2 fish; 1 28-36″ and 1 over 38″
Option B9: 2 fish; 1 28-37″ and 1 over 40″

You can go one step further by contacting your state’s representatives on the Striped Bass Management Board. To send an email, click on your state below, or see the contact information listed at the end of this post. Your input could influence how your state votes at the October 29th Striped Bass Management Board Meeting at the Mystic Hilton in Mystic, Connecticut.

Sent my email, Kev. I like the sounds of 1@32 and it even makes a nice, short but sweet motto. Its too bad that we dont have enough police to patrol our cities and towns, much less hire enough EPO’s it would take to ensure that there arent people out there keeping shorts, or a barrel full of fish over the current keeper limit. Theres just too much shoreline. I’ve seen some things people do that make me wish i could arrest them on the spot.

  2. kris

I dont mind the 1 or even 2 fish limit but i believe one thing thats should change is the daily limit why not make it 2 fish for every 4 days that way 4 days of fish equals 2 fish out and not 8 fish

  3. Billy

I see limits for individuals, but what are the limits for commercial fisherman? I’m an angler that surfcasts don’t get much love going. You only get them when they are there. The commercial guys know where they are and they are the ones that need to be limited.

    1. Kevin Blinkoff

Commercial fishermen are limited by hard quotas. For example, in Massachusetts the quota is around 1,000,000 pounds. When the quota is reached, the fishery is shut down. This proposal would cut the commercial quota by 25%.
