Anglers are catching Walleye in 40 – 50 feet of water. As far as speed goes, the slower, the better! Anglers using planar boards are catching the most Walleye if they keep their lines as far away from the boat as possible. Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass along the shore.

Presque Isle Bay

Anglers are catching panfish along the entire shoreline of both the city and along Presque Isle State Park.

Southern Carbon and Southwest Monroe Counties

Although most of the district’s trout streams have been receiving little to no fishing activity, the Pohopoco Creek, Aquashicola Creek and Mauch Chunk Creek continue to provide good trout fishing opportunities.

Striped Bass action at Beltzville Lake continues to be good at the lake.  Preachers Camp boat access, and the Pine Run boat access areas are good locations to fish for striped bass.  Early morning and evening hours have been the most productive times for striped bass activity.   Anglers fishing from shore along the picnic woods, and the boat rental cove have been successful catching largemouth bass using a variety of baits and soft plastic baits.  Walleye action was good near the dam breast during the evening hours.  Panfish activity remains good in most cove areas of the lake.

Mauch Chunk Lake continues to provide good crappie action at the fishing pier located at boat launch A. A jig tipped with a minnow has been a productive method to catch crappies at the lake.  Catfish action during the evening hours has been productive along the lake shore at boat launch B.  Anglers are reminded that Mauch Chunk Lake is governed by the Big Bass Program Special Regulations. The minimum size of bass harvested from Mauch Chunk Lake must be 15 inches, and the daily creel limit is 4 combined species.

Both Beltzville Lake and Mauch Chunk Lake have sustained an increase in boat traffic on most weekend days. Boaters are reminded to check all the required safety equipment on their boats before venturing out onto the water.   In addition, please check and make sure your boat is properly registered.  Motorboats and boats powered by an electric motor must display a proper motorboat registration.  Unpowered boats such as canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, rowboats, etc. launching at Commission lakes or access areas including PA State Parks launch or access areas must display either a Commission launch use permit, or a PA State Parks (DCNR) launch permit or mooring permit. Boaters are further reminded that Beltzville Lake is governed by designated Slow No Wake areas which are posted by signage and buoys including a designated Water Ski -tubing area.  Boaters are requested to check the maps of the lake which are posted at both boat launches which indicate the special regulation areas.  Alcohol is prohibited at both Beltzville Lake and Mauch Chunk Lake, and the possession and or consumption of alcohol is strictly enforced.
