Area Steelhead Waters

Anglers are catching Steelhead in good numbers on the larger streams.

Forest County

The ice has moved out and the pool is accessible by boat. Anglers have traditionally done well from boats and the shoreline, catching Walleye and Northern Pike.

Tionesta Outflow

Open water has provided anglers the opportunity to fish from the wall for Yellow Perch, Walleye, and Muskellunge. Anglers are reminded that they must have purchased a Trout Permit to fish in the Tionesta Outflow, regardless of fishing for or keeping trout.

Ross Run and Toms Run

Children Only Areas in both Ross and Toms Run will be stocked prior to the March 27, 2021 Mentored Youth Day.

Warren County

Allegheny Reservoir

Anglers are catching Yellow Perch, Northern Pike, and Walleye through the ice.

Allegheny River

Anglers are catching Walleye at the outflow in the early mornings and late evenings. Anglers are also having success targeting Muskellunge off jetboats throughout the river.

Chapman Dam Reservoir

The fish population in the reservoir is still recovering from the drawdown, but trout are still being caught in good numbers. From February 15th to April 3rd, all trout caught must be immediately returned to the waters unharmed.

Northcentral Region

Lycoming County

West Branch Susquehanna River

Anglers have enjoyed some success while fishing for Walleye over the past few weeks before the close of the season on March 15th. The good news is you will have another chance at them beginning May 1st. Cold weather wear is still in effect through April 30th. Although the air temps are reaching well into the 60s, most of our waters are still at or below 40 degrees. If making the decision to launch your kayak or canoe remember to let someone reliable know where you are heading and when you estimate returning.

Trout season is right around the corner and we have been busy stocking your favorite streams. For those of you who have the urge to fish now, you can head over to to find special regulation waters in your area. Those who have taken advantage of these special regulation areas have done well using egg patterns, soft hackles, and midges. Stocked Trout waters will remain closed until Mentored Youth Day and the Statewide Opening Day April 3rd.

Please take note that if fishing in lakes, reservoirs, and ponds during the pre-season (February 15th- the Statewide Mentored Youth Day March 27th or the Statewide Opening Day April 3rd) trout fishing will be open for Catch and Release, but no trout may be harvested.

Centre County

Bald Eagle Creek – Delayed Harvest All Tackle Keystone Select

This special regulation area was well stocked on March 13th, 2021. Trout were stocked by volunteers and staff throughout the entire stretch. Additionally, Trout were float stocked in this section from the upper limit of the regulation area downstream.

Anglers are reporting great success catching Rainbow Trout on a variety of live bait, spinners and flies. Anglers are reminded that all trout must be released unharmed. Please ensure you are taking the necessary precautions when handling fish to give them the best chance at survival.

Sayers Lake Spillway

Angler pressure has been moderate over the past week with anglers reporting good numbers of Crappies and Perch being caught. Most success is coming from minnows and rubber jigs fished under a bobber.

Poe Valley Lake / Cold Stream Dam/ Seven Mountain Boy Scout Pond

All these impoundments are now under the open year-round fishing regulations. All trout caught must be immediately returned with no harvest until the opening days of trout season April 3, 2021.

Northern Lancaster County

Section one of Little Chiques Creek will be stocked with 500 trout for the Opening Day of Trout Season (April 3rd) by the local co-op nursery Donegal Fish & Conservation Association (DFCA).

The Swarr Run was stocked as well, except for the stocking point off Centerville Rd at the bridge, because the area has recently been planted with natural stabilization on both sides of the creek. For this reason, we are asking angler’s not to trout fish in this area during the 2021 season.
