Tim Regan will be resuming the weekly Long Island Fishing Reports on March 17.
Mild weather over the past week has woken up the freshwater fisheries around the island, with bass, pickerel, carp, and panfish all feeding well. Fishermen have even been spotting bass and carp in very shallow water, where they are soaking in the sun and looking for easy meals.
In saltwater, cancellations due to weather have plagued the party boat fleet this winter. Off the South Shore, Laura Lee got out this week and found a good pile of codfish and ling, along with a few other species.
There are already alewives in the runs on the island, which means the stripers won’t be too far behind.
