Fishing Report For Long Island
Things are still quiet around the island, with skim ice covering many of the ponds, and high winds and seas making it difficult to reach the cod grounds and deepwater wrecks.
White perch are spawning, or feeding in preparation of the spawn, so hitting the brackish waters where rivers enter the bays could yield good results. Perch can resist small jigs and spinners, and put up a scrappy fight on trout gear.
When the boats are sailing, they are finding cod and ling. March is usually a great month for cod, but the weather often presents a challenge.
And, of course, you could always pay to play with the trout at the Connetquot. While paying for four hours of fishing time might not sound so appealing in the middle of the fishing season, when looking to cure cabin fever, most anglers spare no expense.
If none of these options sound appealing, you can hit the World Fishing and Outdoors Expo in Suffern this weekend. You can read about some of the new fishing tackle that will be on display at this year’s show here: 7 Must See Items at the Suffern Fishing Expo
