Long Island – New York Fishing Report – January 24, 2019

The weather did not help anyone get out on the water this week. Brutally cold temperatures started out our week, followed by heavy rain. Spring seems that it cannot come soon enough to get more of us out fishing again. Not much to report this week, but a few shops did have some news.
Stella Maris Bait and Tackle reported that in their area things have been quiet this week. They did hear of some anglers heading down to Jersey and even further south to fish for blackfish.
River Bay Outfitters said, he has not heard much this week. Paul however, will be at the fly fishing expo this weekend and the shop will be closed this Friday. It is a great show to stock up on gear and the seminars give you a great chance to learn something new for the upcoming season.
White Water Outfitters gave no news to report from their area of Long Island. The only news they have heard from their customers are the ones traveling down to North Carolina. They have heard of very good reports of anglers catching bluefin tuna.
Fishing Forecast for Long Island
As I mentioned last week it is show season and this weekend you have two great shows to check out. The New York City Boat Show started yesterday and will run until Sunday. Great way to get out of the house for the day with the kids and spend a full day checking out what new boats are coming out for 2019. For you saltwater anglers, this weekend is the Fly Fishing Show in Edison New Jersey. Great seminars and vendors will be at this show to set you up for the season. On The Water Magazine will be at both of these shows all weekend. Stop by the booth to grab a free special edition, sign up for a subscription, and join the Striper Cup. Hope everyone has a great weekend and just keep thinking spring is only a couple of months away.
