Reliable trout fishing continues, pickerel dominate the bite in the bass ponds and strange things happen in the Vineyard Sound surf.
Freshwater ponds are giving up brown trout, walleye, pickerel and carp, while brook trout and white perch keep anglers occupied in the rivers.
The deep water and fast currents off the North Fork of Long Island require a heavy-duty rig to handle the large striped bass that live there.
Chain pickerel, bass and trout entertain anglers fishing the freshwater ponds, while some anglers prefer to chase holdover striped bass.
White perch and trout entertain the masses, shellfishing is very productive, and a few winter flounder were caught around south/central Cape.
Trout fishing is the main event this week, with chain pickerel, largemouth bass and white perch providing additional entertainment in the ponds.
The rivers are fishing well for trout, pickerel are chewing in the ponds, and white perch begin to make a showing on the west end.
Under the right conditions, freshwater anglers can enjoy "surfcasting" for trout in ponds with abundant baitfish during the winter months.
