Friendly Advice
One of the greatest obstacles to success can be the refusal to accept advice from others. I once knew a guy who religiously tied a Mepps lure on his line every time he went fishing. There’s nothing wrong with the Mepps. I’ve caught northern pike, trout, bass and panfish on Mepps, and even though I’ve rarely fished with them in the ocean, I know from personal observation that they also fool bluefish and striped bass. But this fellow I knew was a one-lure-for-all-purposes kind of a guy and to say that his prejudice proved to be an impediment to progress would be an understatement.

Gearing Up For Surfcasting
Chasing striped bass and bluefish from the shore can be a challenge – while boats have free range over the ocean, surfcasters can only fish where their feet will take them. To find success when fishing from dry land, it helps to target your techniques, your approach and even your equipment to the type of area you’re fishing from. Luckily, there’s a ton of gear, accessories and toys available to make surfcasting more fun and productive, whether you’re fishing from a sandy beach or a rocky coast, chunking bait or slinging plugs.
