Christmas in the Canyons (Report 12/11-12/12)
Over the years I’ve heard a lot of offshore captains preach, “If the good water is there, the fish will be too.” It seems reasonable enough, but tuna in the canyons in December?

Helen-H Offshore Overnighter 9/19-9/20 (B&W Photo Essay)
Jordan Paullo from Shimano invited us aboard the Helen-H for an opportunity to test out some new Shimano gear on some bluewater gamefish. Though the seas were rough and the fishing was tough, OTW Graphic Designer George Clondas captured the experience of party boat canyon fishing through the lens of his Nikon D7000. Enjoy.

Oceanographers Canyon Report 8-20-11
No two canyon experiences are the same - that definitely adds to the allure of fishing the edge - but I was hoping that this next trip would at least be similar. Read More

Back To The Edge (Canyon Report 8/12-8/13)
With a cherry forecast for Friday into Saturday last week, a number of boats were making for the edge of the continental shelf. Larry Backman of the Skipjack out of Falmouth Harbor had room for two more, and Andy Nabreski and I snuck out of work a little early on Friday to join him.

Blue Shark Fishing South of the Vineyard
Last weekend, I had the chance to hop aboard Mike Pierdinock’s Perseverance to ply the waters south of Martha’s Vineyard for some sharks. Prior to the trip, I did a little research hoping to find some water and conditions that would be likely to hold makos or, better yet, threshers. Read More

Mako Madness
This down under mako used some incredible acrobatics to avoid ending up on the barby, but as these cobalt blue speed demons slash their way up the Northeast coast, they may not all be so lucky. (language warning)

With more anglers sending jigs to the deep, species that have only before been caught on trolling or heavy chunking tackle are now being tangled with on specialized jigging gear. Last year, anglers jigging aboard New Jersey Party Boats hooked … Read More
