Steven James, Monster Shark Tournament Organizer, Dies While Duck Hunting
The fishing community is mourning the death of Steve James of Marshfield, Massachusetts, who lost his life in a duck hunting accident on January 7, 2014. James served as president of the Stellwagen Bank Charter Boat Association (SBCBA) for the past three years, was a member of the board of directors of the American Bluefin Tuna Association, and served on various advisory boards and panels of the National Marine Fisheries Service and the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas including the Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel. He was also president of the Boston Big Game Fishing Club, and organizer of the Oak Bluffs (Martha’s Vineyard) Monster Shark tournament for the past 27 years.
According to friends, instead of a wake James’ family will hold a celebration of life on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Ocean Deck Restaurant, 239 Dyke Road, Marshfield. Those wishing to share memories will be welcomed to speak. Donations can be made in his name to the SBCBA to help fight for fishermen’s rights.
