Rhode Islanders: Help Increase Striper Poaching Fines

Message from Steve Medeiros, Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association:

We can use your help and support.

The bill to increase penalties on striped bass poachers is up for the second time before the House Judiciary Committee. The first time it was “held for study.” It was not voted on. Now it’s up again.

Please consider sending an email to the members of the House Judiciary committee asking that they support this.

Ask them to support H.5693 when it comes before them on Wednesday. Let them know how important striped bass is to the economy of Rhode Island, and how it’s the most sought-after species here. Tell them that poachers illegally take striped bass with very little fear if they get caught because the current penalty of $50 is not a deterrent.

The committee members are here.

You can just click on each one’s email address to send them a message.
