Tuna Tagging

On The Water editor Kevin Blinkoff joins Captain Eric Stewart on the troll east of Chatham for a very important tuna trip. Also onboard the Tammy Rose are Dr. Molly Lutcavage, director of the Large Pelagic Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, and some of her graduate students. The crew will be taking blood samples and fitting the tuna with an advanced pop-up tag before releasing them back into Massachusetts waters. Dr. Lutcavage explains in detail how this research benefits bluefin tuna, and Captain Stewart keeps the scientists busy with a healthy supply of feisty “volunteers.”
