Block Island Bassin’ and Planer Board Trout

The ever-intense Captain Neal Vitullo plays host to On The Water’s Chris Megan and John Burke for a day of eeling the legendary striper waters of Block Island. Drifting frisky, live eels over the ledges is Captain Vitullo’s secret to putting Chris and John on some hefty warm-water stripers.

Next we move to Long Pond, Massachusetts, where Matt Gleckman employs planer boards to spread out his offerings in order to tempt feisty trout with spoons, plugs and live bait.

Show Location: Block Island and Long Pond, Massachusetts

Rigging: Captain Vitullo gets the eels down with a ½- to 1-ounce egg sinker on the main line. Stopping the weight with a bead and a barrel swivel, Vitullo then attaches a 5-foot leader of 40-pound-test fluorocarbon snelled to a size 7/0 Gamakatsu octopus hook.

Hot Bait/Lure: Live eels, Bird and green machine daisy chain
