As far as killing such a big beautiful fish it is ok if it is your personal best, otherwise release it. For the dinner table, keep fish 36 inches or under, they taste better anyway. There is no arguing this cow would have produced another 60 million eggs in her life. Recreational fishermen blaming commercial fisherman for their abuses of this great AMERICAN resource as an excuse for being abusive is childish. We all need to respect our fishery and frown upon abuse or we will all be responsible for another rockfish/striper collapse like we had. Be a good American and look out for the next generation of fishermen.

Awesome fish! This should be counted as a record in RI, as it is the biggest Red Drum ever caught there. It shouldn't matter that there isn't a category, the waters are warming, climates are changing. I don't think this is the only red drum we are going to see. Obviously its time to make a new category, starting with Brad's catch!

Congratulations to my husband on the biggest catch of his life! Stiles said the white sides abruptly changed to the top color, and the shark had an almost symmetrical tail. (Both of those observations are characteristics of a white shark, and not characteristics of a tiger shark.) Dr. Irving Tilden who transported Troy to the hospital, testified that the victims “skin edges were serrated as if cut off by a toothed object.”
Dr. Hugh M. Smith, former Director of the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries, who did the investigation into Troy's death, concluded the shark involved was: "a man-eater (Carcharodon carcharias)”.

Walter Stiles, who was swimming with Troy, and Herbert Fisher who rowed over to help them, both told Dr. Hugh Smith that the shark was about 10-12 feet long. We get up at 4 am to catch our tide or our spot for the outgoing tide . Take the 45 minute drive to the Atlantic . He caught a 34 inch Striper and entered it in the Striper Cup . But when you see a 7 year old boy battle this fish for a good ten minutes and reading the water and trying to land the fish with the timing of the incoming wave , it is AWESOME . We entered the fish and to find out it was disqualified . Fish has to be atleast 36 inches to be entered . He was bummued out and was hoping to win a weekly prize . He said maybe we should of read the rtules first DAD . Anyway I showed him how to filet his fish and how to handle a knife . And explaining about Catch abd release and keeping a fish to eat . Fishing the CUP is great and when we enter this year his friends will ask him if they can go with us at 4 am . We plan our Trips all the time and are ready for the Cup this year . Surfbags ready to go rods and reels cleaned and repaired. And when he gets his STRIPER CUP Teeshirt he wears it proudly at school . We spend more time with each other since fishing the STRIPER CUP . What more can be said . Time with my son and my Daughter is 3 years old and already caught a 10" Largemouth and 3 Perch on her DORA ROD and reel . We book a room at the end of the year for the Striper Cup in Falmouth stay the night and enjoy hearing what other fishermen have to say . This is why I fish the STRIPER CUP . . I love seeing his smile when the bite is on and his rod bent over and watching him reel in his STRIPER'S . And how he watches the birds and scans the ocean for anything . . . And he loves getting up at 4 am with me do the 45 minute drive for " FIRST LIGHT " . . . This is why I fish the STRIPER CUP . Not to win . . .but for the extra time with my SON . .

Why , because it gives me extra time to fish with my son .
